Designer Mette Saabye

Mette Saabye was born in 1969, and is formally educated as a jeweler. She has studied jewellery design in Florence at Fuji Studio and at the Institute of Precious Metals from which she graduated in 1996. She has since worked as a designer and jewellery artist.

Mette Saabye is one of Danish jewellery art’s most acclaimed experimental artists. In recent years, she has worked with jewellery that relates to identity, perception of reality, and the individual’s sense of what is precious and unique. She also works with completely down-to-earth sources of inspiration like the craft and its possibilities, function, beauty, ornamentation and the relationship between body and jewellery.
Mette Saabye has received numerous prestigious awards for her work including the St. Loye prize, which is Copenhagen Goldsmiths Guild prestigious recognition for young talent, Biennale Prize for Crafts and Design and the Government Arts 3 year work grant. She exudes cool, classic elegance, like Audrey Hepburn in a modern version of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.
